Atlas

Home infrastructure: a camera, a mirror, a file server and a gateway, all behind one contract.

Four services that share one four-endpoint contract and nothing else: no database, no library, no host. A camera, a mirror, a file server and a network gateway all appear in the same phone app, and none of them knows the others exist. The interesting part is not any one module; it is that the contract held while the modules got this different from each other.

Layer 1 of 4

The app

One phone app that has never heard of any module. It renders what the contract hands it.

Building — Actively being worked on right now. Personal · 2026

AtlasKit

The iOS side: a Swift package that talks to every module, built before there was an app to put it in.

  • Talks to any module
  • Streams events live
  • Reads an MJPEG stream
  • Models the mirror's panels

Layer 2 of 4

The contract

Four endpoints and one event envelope. The only thing the layers above and below share.

Layer 3 of 4

The modules

Services that implement the contract alone. No shared database, library or host.

Shipped — Finished, or finished enough that the write-up is about what it does. Personal · 2026

homecloud

A file server that checks its own backups are readable, and tells you when they are not.

  • Serves files over the LAN
  • Backs up on a schedule
  • Verifies the archive is readable
  • Watches the machine underneath

securecam

A camera that recognises faces at a door, and the reasoning about why the lock stays disabled.

  • Watches without recording everything
  • Recognises enrolled faces
  • Decides when to interrupt you
  • Refuses to open the door

smartmirror

A monitor behind two-way glass that wakes up when you walk towards it.

  • Wakes when you approach
  • Shows eight kinds of panel
  • Keeps yesterday's answer
  • Is arranged by dragging

Planned — Specified and not started — the reasoning is usually the interesting part. Personal · 2026

securenet

A network gateway, and an honest conflict with the platform's own rules.

  • Filters DNS
  • Would terminate a tunnel
  • Never severs its own management path

Layer 4 of 4

Underneath

Code shared by choice rather than by contract: the recognition engine a module is built on.

Shipped — Finished, or finished enough that the write-up is about what it does. Personal · 2026

The face engine

The shared recognition library, and the voting rule that decides when a guess counts as knowing.

  • Detects and embeds
  • Matches by cosine similarity
  • Decides when a guess counts as knowing
